Misty

There is something about the creative process that still amazes me. Sometimes the inspiration comes in a vision. Those insights are precious and rare. Often, I am inspired by a beautiful experience in nature - a waterfall, an unusual combination of flowers, or the play of sunlight on a foggy day. Many of my jewelry designs have been born out of personal encounters with the unexpected. I just happen upon something I can’t get out of my head, until it emerges as a piece of jewelry. I rarely repeat a design because I can’t.

My most recent work goes back to my fascination with light, specifically the play of light in gray and muted tones. I have been using hematite, pyrite and silvery metallic stones and beads with clear crystal to evoke the mystery of objects seen through net or gauze. The translucent quality reminds me of walks on a foggy day. Everything is partially hidden, but curiously soft and inviting. You want to see more. That’s the best thing about fog and the mysterious - they never really hide anything. They just make you look closer and imagine what might be there.
